Background
Reducing HIV-related stigma and discrimination in healthcare settings is crucial for ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030 (Sustainable Development Goad 3 – target 3.3). HIV stigma is a know barrier to achieving positive health and well-being. It hampers HIV prevention and treatment efforts by causing avoidance of health facilities and services, including testing. Understanding how stigma manifests itself in healthcare settings, and what underpins stigmatising actions and behaviours among healthcare workers, is necessary to understand how best to intervene and address individual and institutional drivers of stigma and discrimination towards people living with HIV.
Objectives
At this webinar, ECDC presents findings from their survey on stigma in healthcare settings and provides insights into the level and characteristics of HIV-related stigma in healthcare settings in Europe and Central Asia. Suggested areas that need to be addressed are also presented.
